Best spot in the house

Gregory doesn’t really like Thursdays. Those are the days that everyone else gets to leave the house and he’s stuck home alone with his momma. He spends quite a bit of the day hanging out by the door, waiting for time to go get his brothers.

Even when he’s not waiting for a brother to come home, he loves the front door. There’re all the trees to look at and sometimes people with dogs go by. Frequently we have little dust-n-leave twisters right outside the front door (at least a couple times a day, actually).

Personally, I’m not really fond of our entryway. It has the old wallpaper from the former residents. It’s always messy with papers and backpacks and jackets. It’s drafty this time of year and hot in the summer. The doorway isn’t big enough to really see a lot that’s going on out front of the house.

But Gregory loves it. So do the other kids. They like to set up their bowling pins there and dig through my shoes (from the shoe cupboard–to wear, of course!).

The Land of No Sleep

These two boys haven’t been sleeping lately. Oh, sure, they’ll sleep and hour here or there during the night, usually at opposite times, but for me, that is Not Sleeping. I haven’t had a full nights or even a half nights sleep in over two weeks.

So this morning I made an executive decision (Nick’s not available, so it’s up to me. woo hoo!) to forgo the Workroom for now and to turn that room back into the Nursery. I think the two boys are feeding off of each others inability to sleep and us constantly having to go into that one same room twelve times a night is keeping them up even more than they would have been on their own.

I’ve already moved Greg’s toys. He’s sooo excited! Some of them I don’t think he’s even seen before (they were on the shelves in the boys room, but the way it was set up, you couldn’t really easily get to them). Of course, he has a few toys that aren’t his that he’s trying to drag over there. It’s kinda funny, actually.

Anyways, I hope this helps fix the problem.

Very domestic day

It’s been an oddly domestic day for me today.  I made french toast from french bread with freshly squeezed orange in it for second breakfast (first was just yogurt with honey).  I’ve run 5 loads of laundry through washing, drying, folding & I’m starting to put it away (it’s in towering piles on my bed).  The younger kids and I sang and danced and played computer games and sang and danced some more.  We hit library storytime, got books, came home & read them.   Then I made garlic toast with spaghetti sauce & salad & sweetened ice tea for lunch (admittedly Nick made the sauce the other night, but I was the one that peeled & crushed garlic to make the garlic butter for the toast).  Then there was more singing and dancing and washing dishes.  I ran two loads through the dishwasher (one from yesterday and one from today).  Picked up the last kid and played the original Legend of Zelda game on the original NES for about an hour (we took turns).  Then I got dinner ready (it’s cooking as I type).  While it’s cooking I’m going to take yet more books & CD’s out of David’s closet and put them on the shelves in the living room.  Tonight I’ll take David to RA’s, which is usually Nick’s job, but he’s working late in meetings all this week (which is highly annoying, as I can’t call him while he’s out there).  Plus I’m wearing a skirt for the second day in a row.  How weird is all that?  Have I mentioned that it’s been a mostly good day so far?  Oh yeah.  (It’s drizzly and cold and Ben keeps wondering when the snow is coming–hehehe.)

He wanted to check out the vents and light.

So this morning I was trying to dance with the baby, make French toast, do laundry, and wash some dishes. All at once, naturally. At some point I must have put the baby down, left the dryer door open, and did some cooking or washing, because this is what I found when I went back to put the wash into the dryer.

Pictures!

I’m trying to learn to take better photos. My camera, well, it’s a bit broken, so my attempts to use nifty settings are limited. However, I’m learning to take advantage of lighting in a room and shadows and such. It’s been fun for me and the kids. They piled the puzzle pieces around the bowl for me (they were already working on the puzzle and eating the snack, so it was easy for them to help).
