Another day in vacation

IMG_2692We decided yesterday that it was going to be our play-in-pajamas-stay-indoors kind of day because we needed one and hadn’t really had a chance to have a day alone, so we spent the morning inside doing practically nothing productive (like watching movies and playing video games and reading magazines), but halfway through that we got a text from a friend begging us to meet her and her kids at the playground, as they’d been sick all break and could use a day outside in the fresh air (what’s that?).  So we spent the afternoon at the school playground, playing football and soccer and keep-away and climbing things.  It was great fun!  🙂

Then that night I got to go out with several of my favorite “local” people.  I put that in quotes because one lives a few blocks from me and another a few miles, and then one lives 20 miles outside of town and the last one 45 miles away.  I think it’s funny that they all are “local” even in our small town.  We last got together on my birthday last year, what with one thing and another.  It was a weird meeting even then.  I thought I was mixing up my friend groups and that only a couple people knew each other (there were 6 of us then), but everyone turned out to know everyone else and it was fabulous.  So one of the gals mentioned meeting up again and we made it happen and it was, indeed fabulous again!  🙂  We’re already planning another night out together.  🙂  I’m very pleased because these are some of my oldest friends in town.  🙂  Others have requested an “in” with the group…we shall see, we shall see.  🙂  I think our real common core is our ability to laugh at ourselves.  🙂

IMG_2696

Today we got up, late, as is the course of things this week.  Today it caused a bit of panic.  I needed to have gotten up early to tidy for the babysitter, who was coming in unreasonably early to watch the boys while I got my RA infusion.  I went out to pick up donuts while 2/3rds of the kids were asleep, but I couldn’t find my debit card once I got there, so I came home empty handed and dreading identity theft and called around to make sure that wasn’t the case and made a quick casserole, which no one really ate.  Had my infusion, which was awkward due to several issues, and came home and “rested” which means got-crawled-on-by-boys-while-playing-on-facebook-and-reading-to-boys-and-feeding-them-occasionally.  Whee!

Nick eventually came home and we got things ready for church tomorrow and ate dinner.  Now everyone is asleep except for me and Greg.  He says he’s having nightmares.  Ha.  He hasn’t slept a full night in his own bed (it’s like musical beds around here) since Halloween, not that I blame him.  I haven’t slept or had a crying-free day since his friend’s mom (my friend Jelena) was murdered and her brother kidnapped either.  We should probably seek therapy or something.  I just keep telling myself that it could be worse and that really I should get over it.  It’s not that easy, though.  I’ve been writing sad poetry again.  That seems to help.  I guess 6-year-olds don’t really do sad poetry.  They sleep with their mamas.  Ah well.

I’ve run out of things to say today.  Good night, people!

End of December, NY Resolutions, and all that jazz

I’m having trouble with the fact that it’s 2013 already for some reason. Most years I am quite happy to let the new year come, but this year just felt like it went by so slowly and quickly and unsatisfactorily that I can’t believe that it is over. So let’s catch up first on the end of 2012, ok? Great!

The last week of school before the break David came down with the flu, which of course quickly spread to me and I got bronchitis, too.

IMG_2544

We had all kinds of obligations that week including D’s first band concert, which he missed, and the annual Christmas music recital, which we all missed, and class parties, which David missed and I was asked to leave when it came out that I was so sick (“But I’m the coordinator!” “Mrs. H, you are sick. Go home to bed. We’ll be all right!”), and we also missed a birthday party for Greg’s friend Asher which was End of the World themed for the Mayan Apocalypse (we have awesome friends, right?!), and our beloved Owen’s first birthday party was missed as well. I did manage to catch Greg’s Christmas program, though, which was super cute!

IMG_2561

Our van also broke down the next-to-last day of school before the break. I was at Brookshire’s in my less-than-appropriate-for-the-weather pants when it happened. Fortunately my friend BR came and picked me up and took me and my supplies up to D’s school for his class party and then dropped me back at the van to await the tow truck. Then Nick rescued me and brought me back home to my sick David. (And then my van was gone until New Years Eve, due to one thing and another needing to be ordered. It was a ridiculously expensive experience.)

IMG_2577

So Nick ended up driving us down to CS for Christmas. I slept through most of it. When I wasn’t sleeping, I was dozing in front of the television or feeding people. Seriously, I have no real memory of what went on other than A) gifts were given and received, B) I watched more bits of more random things than ever before in my life except when I had pneumonia, and C) I wore a Typhoid Mary name tag to Christmas Eve service at church. Cause my mom said I had to go and I’m wacky like that. Looking back at pictures, I see we played some games, made a gingerbread house, grew some crystal snowmen & trees, the kids scootered with the neighbor kids, my sister took them out to play basketball at the school, and my dad got them a giant remote controlled car to play with.

IMG_2593

We eventually came home and found out that it had snowed while we were gone! There really was very little left, but the kids went outside and had a blast!

105

The kids spent the night with their Nana & Pa. Then we had dinner with our friends L & M, making pizzas and exchanging books. It was delightful.

IMG_2606

Then next day Nick, David, and Greg left for Dallas for their Teen & Pre-teen Winter Weekend (a church event). Ben stayed with Nana & Pa, as he was still sick, and I had two whole days to myself. It was lovely. I spent one whole day reading than watching movies based on books I read. The next day I tried a whole bunch of things from Pinterest and posted them all just in time for the Pinterest Party some of my group of friends from church is having.

IMG_2630

The next day was New Years Eve. We got the van back and I bought a few party supplies and the kids and I made a few decorations and we had a party at my parents house here in town. We stayed up late playing silly games (Apples 2 Apples is my current favorite) and tried to do fireworks in the rain and ate a whole bunch of junk food.

116

We did a countdown at 10pm for the younger kids, then had a toast and took everyone home. The younger kids went to bed, then we counted down the new year again with David watching the East Coast new years eve show. Then he went to bed and Nick fell asleep while I watched Sherlock and waited for it to be 2013 properly (I couldn’t stand any more of those stupid new year’s eve shows). It was a good night! In the morning we got up and went back over to my parents house for coffee and more games (we got my dad addicted to Settlers of Catan this year and even my mom will play it). Eventually they left to go back home to their other house. We spent the rest of the day trying to clean up and put away stuff from all the places we’d been and all the stuff we’d gotten.

Today feels like the first kind of real day of the new year. Although not exactly, as the kids are still out of school until Tuesday. Still, we’re working on our resolutions and playing with our new stuff. Tomorrow I’ll post about our resolutions and our family motto for the year. 🙂

Don’t Just Talk About It, Days 13,14, & 15

When I first made my list earlier this month, I had no idea that I’d end up having the kind of week I have scheduled ahead of me.  Monday I have a two-hour webinar for scouts, Tuesday I’m going to spend all day driving to and from Dallas with David, getting his back checked for scoliosis, Wednesday I have a half day playdate (planned for two weeks ago, then rescheduled) to catch up with a friend that I haven’t seen since my birthday last April, Thursday I’m going in to the hospital to have an EEG done to see if I’m having mini seizures, and Friday I’m having another catch-up playdate with a different friend (also rescheduled) who I thought I’d seen this month, but apparently haven’t yet.

Fortunately I’ve already done days 16 & 17.  YAY.  So today I’m going to try to get 13, 14, & 15 all done.  Watch for updates.  There should be some.  You know, unless I fall over and hit my head or something. *sigh*

Update 1:

BEFORE:

The craft supplies extend into the two carts on either side of the desk and also into the big binder, box, and accordion file under the desk

Two hours later, I have emptied the entire desk-that-was-my-grandmothers (now referred to as the craft desk because that’s a less unwieldy phrase), taken stuff out, looked at it, pitched some of it in the trash, designated other bits -one entire drawer actually- for sale on ebay  (anyone interested in some Stampin’ Up?), and moved another whole drawer over to another area, where I feel like I might feel more compelled to write notes & cards (since I won’t have to dig through the scary deep drawer to find them).  I have also dug through the entire cart, following the same process as above, a drawer in the other cart, and the small three drawered cubby as well.  I watched episode 1 & 2 of the first season of the UK version of Being Human while doing so.  I say “watched” but listened was more like it.  I wanted to see it because I liked the werewolf from when he was on Little Dorrit.  I liked him here, too, which was unfortunate because the show is too bloody for me.  😦

Now the children are home, it’s lunch time, and we’re digging through drawer 2 of the second cart.  We may have to stop to do tie-dye before we move on, since it takes up a lot of space and the children would rather we tie-dye today than throw it out unused.  I agree with them.  If only we had some white t-shirts.  Off to check for shirt availability.

Update 2:

An hour later, Nick has gone off to work and I have finished emptying the second cart.  Another trash can has been added, as the first one is FULL.  The tie-dye did not pan out, as only one kid has a shirt available for  it.  The top of the desk is left to do, as is finding a home off the floor for all the paper products (which do not fit into the desk).

MIDWAY:

See, the top is still left to be sorted out. That'll be left until the ebaying is complete, sadly.

However, the day is still rain-free, the kids are awake and at liberty, so they are being drafted into “Day 15” and will help me carry heavy stuff in the garage.  I can hear them discussing it amongst themselves right now.  “We have to help her because she’s TIRED.”  “We’ll carry the heavy stuff and then she’ll be happy and let us have screen time later.”  They are SO RIGHT on both counts. (In other news, my bff read my earlier update & called & excused me from coming to her house this weekend, which was a relief because I was fairly certain I’d be dead by then.  Two trips to DFW in one week do not make for a happy Lisa.  On the other hand, I had wanted to see the Harry Potter party leftovers and love on her and her kids.  Ah well, there will be time for that next month.)

Update 3:

Another hour later, because I’m about to pass out and this may be the last update of the day.  The two younger kids have been very good helpers, as evidenced by the quotes above (you all knew that was Ben & Greg, right?).  David got mad about 3 minutes in because I wouldn’t let him keep his large supply of sticks in the garage any longer.  He left to take a giant bag of Lego bricks inside (why was it in the garage?  no idea) and never came back out again.  Greg and Ben helped me break down boxes, sort things into recycling bins (certain things can go in the one that goes out to the street that can’t go directly to the recycle center and vice versa) and the dumpster, and sort other things into whose room in the house they belonged to for once they go back inside.  Now we have a couple bins of things that go back in the house, which worries me a bit.  But the garage has been tidied up a reasonable amount, my trunk is full of more stuff for Goodwill, and in a few minutes it’ll also have been swept.  And then I’m going to go lie down on the couch and watch The Secret of Moonacre again with Greg because it is a delightful movie and I am exhausted.

Update 4:

(Are you shocked?)

Well, another hour has gone by and I haven’t passed out yet.  The kids didn’t want to watch a movie just yet.  “It’s a lovely day, Mama!”  And it is.  Breezy, warm.  Non-standard January weather.  They wanted to ride bikes in front of the house.  Sure, why not.  Well, here’s why: we tidied the bikes into a figurative corner and couldn’t get them out without getting the van out of the garage.  As long as the van was out and there was more space to move around in, why not reconfigure the garage so the bikes are easy to get to and the van seats (which rarely leave the garage these days) are less open to the elements?  So the kids got their bikes out, I shifted the other stuff while they were riding, et voila!  Now they can get to their bikes & helmets & padding on their own and I, thanks to some hooks hung on the wall to contain their never-used golf sets, have comfy seats inside the garage to watch the festivities from, out of the sun and elements.  Wahoo!

BEFORE:

messy, hard to get around stuff

Messy messy back wall of garageMessy, messy garage looking out of big doors

AFTER:

stuff we like to use front and center by the door, tidied up & purged of extras (except that small desk, which is destined for my in-laws house once their remodeling is complete, which will be soon)

The back wall of the garage, tidied up. :)Looking out through the big door of the garage, all tidied up

Don’t Just Talk About It, Day 2

I had to admit defeat on day 2.  I put my hardest-to-do thing there, it was a busy day, and I ended up with a migraine by 1pm.  *shakes head* The migraine went on and on, refused to let any remedies work on it, and I woke up the next morning with a weirder version of it than I’d gone to bed with.  Spent the next day battling the migraine and doing church stuff.  More about that later.  Anyway, I’m just going to continue on to day 3 tomorrow and hope that I catch up on day 2 sometime later this week.  🙂

Exercise makes me grumpy

So it’s day one of exercise and already I’m grumpy.  I don’t know why.  My husband loves to exercise; it makes him all glowy.  Me, though, it makes grumpy.

I love the video I started with, which was recommended by a friend:

bellydancebeginners

Things I like about it: 1) It truly does start at the beginning.  As in: “Move your arm like this. *goes on for a while*  Now the other one.  *goes on for a while*  Now do your leg like this.  Try to keep your arm moving, but if you can’t, try to learn the leg now and we’ll put it together in a minute.”  (No, not a literal quote, but more of a “hey, you’re a beginner” vibe you get.)  Rather than “Okay, do this whole combination at once even though I haven’t taught you any of the parts.”  Anyway, this video was good, had girls that giggled when they were doing something that was really dumb looking, and was something I’d try again.  Disclaimer: I only did 23 of 33 minutes.  I was exhausted by then.

So, exercise: I did some.  And now I’m off to take some pain reliever because even a small amount of low-impact arm and leg waving gives me a terrible headache (hey, maybe that’s why I’m grumpy).

Happy New Year!

I was thinking the other day about resolutions and what mine should be this year.  I think mine from last year are still on the fridge, actually, but rather than look at the past, let’s look to the future, shall we?

  • This year I plan on losing 50 pounds.  Yes, fifty.  2011 was the year that I gained 25 pounds and I started out the year needing to have lost at least 25.  So that puts me at 50 pounds this year to lose.  My plans include a) having acquired a bunch of lovely to look at, but not in my size-range-yet clothes to spur me on, b) having rejoined Sparkpeople.com to chart my diet and exercise, c) having enlisted my husband into the process to help me keep on task and d) having filled up my netflix DVD queue with exercise titles solicited from friends that exercise-but-aren’t-exercise-fiends.

  • This year I also plan on returning to daily journaling.  I haven’t kept up on daily writing in a few years, so I thought that rather than make a word goal or a page goal, I’d make just writing a goal.  I’m going easy on my self this year and including any words I write go towards that, be they in a paper journal, here, on my RA blog, in poetry form, or fiction.  Just getting back in the writing habit.

  • I’m continuing on with my piano lessons this year, but that isn’t really a goal, is it?  So here’s a little goal: I plan on playing something for church every third month this year.  How’s that?

  • Last but not least, my husband and I have gotten ourselves a daily devotional to work on through the year.  This one is a Bible-in-a-year Couples devotional.  We’ve never tried doing something like this (reading a book let alone a devotional) together before, so that should be interesting.

There you have it: my plans for the year in a nutshell.  Hope y’all are having a great new year!

Someday I’ll be back again with tales of our last week of Winter Break.  Smile

Oh so tired…

…but trying to catch up. In case you were wondering, I’ve gone back and finished up a few posts and hit “Publish” today, so in case you’re reading from a feed-reader you might want to visit the site and see what’s gone up lately (I’ve noticed that sometimes Google Reader doesn’t update when I hit “publish” on back-dated posts. Or sometimes it just pops up all 8 billion all at once. YMMV.). I’ve been saving posts on the theory that someday I might upload the photos and add the photos to them. Hahahah. Today was that day. But let’s not let me get ahead of myself.

Last Friday we got up and did…something, who knows what, until it was time to go to playgroup. This week they texted me that they wanted to do the library, which was fine by me, as we’d had to skip on Wednesday. The library’s Circus Day was different than we’d expected, more like an indoor winter carnival than a circus. It was fun for the kids, though. There was hand stamping and face painting (strangely none of our children wanting either thing done). Punching dolls and snowmen were set up to throw hula hoops around.

p_00178

There was a Bobbing for Bears booth and Snacks & Storytime as well.

p_00184

Greg’s favorite part was the Puppet Theatre: “And they lived happily ever after. The End.”
p_00189

But really, it was all a little too loud in there because there were so many school groups and day cares in there. The kids asked to go to “the real library” so we headed over to the side with books and let them play in the regular story room and to look at books:
p_00190

After the library we came home and I was exhausted. It was lunchtime. Nick looked at me and suggested a nap. So I reminded him of the kids rescheduled piano lessons, put my ear plugs in, and went to bed. I slept until 4:30 when the piano teacher rang and asked if we were still planning on coming. Apparently no one else remembered piano lessons. So I got up, drove the kids over, and stared out the window until it was time to go home. I got to officially meet her daughter and chat about pinterest for a few minutes, which was nice, but I was so out-of-it. Took the kids back home and tried to get things done, but really was not awake enough for anything.

Saturday we got up and blissfully had nowhere we needed to be. I rested all morning, as I was still exhausted, but things did not improve for me. Everyone else went to church and I stayed home and slept. By the time everyone got home I was doing well enough to load & unload the dishwasher, but not much else.

Sunday we got up and had a busy day full of cleaning and repairing. Nick and David worked on repairing the light fixture in the kids room:
p_00176

Then I found Nick the dishwasher guide and he tried to fix the dishwasher. He got as far as I did the day I tried and also couldn’t get the part off that I couldn’t get off. So we read the guide and decided to try the suggestion to run hot water in the sink before we run the dishwasher. It’s seemed to help somewhat.

We washed and cleaned and swept and cleaned some more until dinnertime. It wasn’t a really exciting day, actually. Just productive.

Monday was yet another A. day. He was cranky. Greg was cranky. I was cranky. The less said the better, probably. The big kids had scouts in the evening and I got them to go together again like last week since it worked so well. 🙂

Yesterday I got the big kids to draw me their plans for their Scout Cake Auction cakes. They’re supposed to design and make their own cakes with a scout-like theme. We looked online for some ideas to enhance our designs, made a list of supplies needed, and then it was time for the big kids to be dropped off at school. Greg and I went shopping for those supplies, plus a few others for other baking related things we have going on this week (piano recital, gift cookies, cookie exchange cookies). We did not get the film that was developed because the film area was not open until 9am, which I find ridiculous, especially this time of year. Grr. Got home in time to pick up Greg’s school stuff. Once I got him settled at school, I came home and baked my first batch of cookies for the week, courtesy of Pinterest (recipe here and using stamps to press cookies here). Nick called and said he was leaving for Houston before lunch so he never got to sample them.

At that point it was time to head out for the PTA meeting. I brought them some cookies and some for the office staff as well. We had our meeting and then put together staff appreciation gifts (scented candles and hand-signed cards with candy canes attached with ribbon). I got out in time to grab food from home to eat on my way picking up Greg from MDO. Picked him and the big kids up, got them to practice their piano pieces one last time, then gathered up my kids plus an extra that was coming to be the audience for the mini-recital. Since our local family doesn’t celebrate Christmas and my parents are in BCS during the week, we asked friends from school & their moms (one mom not pictured) to come hear our little recital.
DSCN5043
DSCN5044DSCN5045

The recital went pretty well. The kids were a bit nervous and made a few mistakes here and there, but they were so happy to have their friends there it didn’t matter. The kids in the audience sang along to the songs they knew words to, which was super fun! I had thought about bringing my piano books with in case I was asked to play, but after all that PTA work, my hands weren’t up to playing by that point in the day. It would have been nice, though. After the recital we exchanged gifts with the teacher and the kids ran outside to play on the stumps in the front lawn (and were joined by a random kid on a bike):
DSCN5054

It was a really good evening! At home I made a really simple dinner and we watched “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” to wind down before bed.

Today we got up and I did a mini recital of my own for my own kids while they got ready for school. It was nice to play through my Christmas music for them and they enjoyed singing along. 🙂 Got the big kids off to school & then A. came over. The kids played in the back yard most of the morning, digging for dinosaur bones and looking for T-rexes over the fence in the creek.
p_00180

I, of course, sat where I could see them and set about uploading photos and finishing inserting pictures into blog posts so they could finally be “published.” 🙂 Today was our awkward in-between day before a bunch of things happen. Tonight we’ll bake the cakes for scouts so we can decorate them tomorrow. I have to go to the store now and buy 2 more items that I couldn’t find at Super-Walmart yesterday for the cookies I’m baking for tomorrow nights cookie exchange party (which is happening at the same time as the Scout Cake Auction). Then the next day will be a school program in the morning, a coffee date, then all the class parties, followed by a trip on the Polar Express (on the Palestine to Rusk train), and ending up with dinner at the yummy Italian place in Palestine. I think I probably won’t be updating until Sunday or so, after I’ve had a chance to catch my breath. Y’all have a fun next few days! 🙂

October already!

I can’t believe it’s already October!

School started for the kids back in mid-August, which meant I did lots of shopping and resting and shopping some more.  Then PTA stuff started back up.  I’m homeroom parent coordinator, so I’ve spent lots of time making a database of which parent is willing to help with which activity for which grade (as well as all the contact info, which flummoxes me a bit because the school already has most of that info in a database somewhere; why must I copy it?).  I started volunteering a couple hours a week in the school library helping check in and out while the librarian teaches classes.  I also help out with shelving (I bring in my own kneeling pad & am allowed to scoot around in the wheeled chair when my knees are bad) and in the computer lab.  It’s more fun and life-affirming than you can imagine.  My husband thought it might wear me out, but it actually has been energizing me because it gives me a couple hours out of my own head.  Plus I get to talk to kids about books!  What could be better?!

Let’s see, what else?  My sinus CT came back normal (I was on steroids and antibiotics at the time; of course it looked normal) so I’m keeping the suggested surgery at bay for a while longer.  I got a staph infection at the gym (I’m pretty sure it was there) the first day I went there.  They now have bleach wipes for everyone to use after using the machines.  Yay.

Once that was gone, I went back to my primary care doctor for a physical.  He said I was the healthiest he’d seen me in ages and that we should go ahead and do those vaccinations he’d been holding off on for a long while.  So I got a flu shot and a TDAP.  I immediately started feeling weak and dizzy, but I HATE shots, so I didn’t say much.  I told the lady doing my blood draw that I felt weird and she let me sit for a while first and eventually I was good to go.  Three days went by and while my flu shot side (the nurse labeled them) stayed small and red, the TDAP side swelled and swelled and was very hot.  I had a fever the first couple days, then it left and a stiff neck set in.  I called my doctor’s office a couple times but my doctor was out of the office & there was a holiday weekend involved, so I finally saw the doctor about a week later.  He said I’d had a really bad reaction to the vaccination and put me on another round of steroids.  (Even now, a month later, I can still feel a marble sized lump under my skin on that site.)

Since I’m mostly doing all right lately, I’ve started a new food tracking program.  I’m using LoseIt.com to track my food and exercise (I used to use SparkPeople, but it felt so competitive and just like too much to do).  I’ve discovered a few things the past couple weeks (I tracked for a week without changing anything first, just to see what that looked like.): 1) After entering my age/weight/activity level and letting the program run its calculations, I found out that I apparently don’t eat enough, so my body’s been in starvation mode and b) once I started eating as many calories as I’m supposed to have, I started losing weight.  So far just a week of eating more (and making sure that that “more” was a healthy more, not a candy bar or soda more) and I’m down 1.7 pounds.  No extra exercise (although it counts weird things like housecleaning and music making as exercise) involved.  We’re going on vacation this next week, so eating well will be trickier, but I’ll also be moving around more, so that’ll even some things up.  Still, I’ll be trying checking out menus/nutritional values and trying to keep as close to on-track as one can while on vacation.

How’s the RA?  It’s coming and going.  When I’m being good and resting like I ought to it mostly stays pretty quiet.  When I’m running around like a crazy person (the last couple weeks: friends came to dinner, we went out to dinner, my kids birthday party, book fair at school, field trip for MDO, PTA movie night, playing a duet at church, family dinner night out), then it creeps up on me and unleashes its wrath: hot swollen ankles, knees, and hands; a painful back, shoulders, and elbows.  I’m hoping that this upcoming vacation week allows me to slow down a little and catch my breath and rest my limbs.  🙂

Food, Fitness, & Faith, day, ummm…

Well, around day 11 I got a fever and tried to rest by not exercising.  Didn’t help. Food wise I did okay.

Day 12 I was still feverish.  I also tried to rest by not exercising, but I HAD to work the school book fair, so that wasn’t really restful, was it? I did okay at breakfast and lunch was a salad at the school (oh happy day!)  Sadly, dinner was at the pizza buffet with my mom watching me eat (she hates that I eat practically nothing at a buffet, so I tried to eat more to make her happy, which makes me unhappy.  it’s a bad cycle.).

Day 13 I was feeling better, walked a bit back and forth and back and forth to my mom’s house.  Ate next to nothing for breakfast. Lunch was a sandwich and chips shared with Greg from the fancy Fresh grocery (running errands can be fun if you do it right).  I spent an hour and a half at the sink washing dishes, which completely wore me out.

Day 14 was a busy day (and a “no exercise” day because it was the Sabbath) with early church, dinner at a friends house, then a late youth group planning meeting afterwards.  I did a lot of fast walking here, there, everywhere, trying to meet all the needs of Hospitality.

Day 15 I realized that if I was going to get back into exercising that today needed to be that day.  But I woke up completely drained, kids had to be corralled into doing their work, Nick was literally at work, and by the time I was awake and alive enough to do anything, dishes & laundry beckoned.  I worked on that (not finishing, no) until it was time to leave for the  super-extra-long rehearsal (I’m playing clarinet for the ensemble playing “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at a local high school).  Came home, at dinner, collapsed in heap.

And now it’s Day 16.  I’ve woken up late, everyone’s late this morning, in a panicked rush, and I’m posting this because it’s been sitting on my desktop for days and I’ve been adding this in dribs and drabs, so no photos.

Question: Should I start over on the book or continue where I left off?  Most of the other ladies in my group are doing worse than I am and one is starting over.  I just don’t know.

Day 9: Food, Fitness, & Faith

Day 9 was all about having healthy priorities and becoming an expert about your own body and figuring out your next steps.  My Healthy Next Steps include things like: talking to the doctor about ongoing health issues, getting rid of the junk food in the house (which is good for every part of me), and taking a walk whenever I feel called to do so (which is as good for my mental health as it is for my physical health).

Exercise: I got up and did my Nancy Marmorat video, the series about toning your belly area.  I need to find another video that focuses on that area, as I think I have enough extra exercises for everything else, but I need something more interesting for this one.  I’ve only done this one twice and I’m already bored and grumpy with it.  I’ll check Netflix and see if I can find something there.  I also took a 30 minute walk in the evening.

Food: I had my basic breakfast, but since I was running around a lot, lunch was taken on the road.  I got a “tiny” roast beef sandwich on wheat, no sauces, but with onions and lettuce.  It was 435 calories!  The chips were 200, so I saved them for after school snack time.  Dinner was Vegetarian Night, as our schedule is wacky this week.  We had Dal (115 calories), plain broccoli (27 calories), ginger-dill carrots (no idea, but couldn’t be high), and cous-cous (150 calories).
